Program Reference Framework

As a reference for the Radio and Television Program, the department adopted the academic standards of the American Accrediting Council for Journalism and Mass Communications Programs (2006), with certain modifications to suit the nature of radio and television programs and the Palestinian and Arab contexts. These standards are reflected in the following objectives:

  • Training students to use the latest technologies in radio and television production.
  • Equipping students with the skills required to prepare and produce radio and television programs.
  • Raising students’ awareness of professional conduct standards and journalism ethics.

Objectives

  1. Diversify students’ specialized sources of knowledge across various fields and disciplines.
  2. Develop the specialization of radio and television at the professional, practical, and academic levels, with an emphasis on practical applications.
  3. Foster critical thinking, evaluation, and review skills among media professionals through a comprehensive knowledge system provided to students.
  4. Produce diverse radio and television programs.
  5. Produce a variety of documentary films.
  6. Analyze the development of communication technology and its impact on radio and television broadcasting, including photography, lighting, editing, directing, and set design.
  7. Apply communication theories to understand the psychological and social dimensions of radio and television effects on audiences.
  8. Critically evaluate dramatic works, radio and television advertisements, documentary films, and radio and television program content.

Intended Learning Outcomes

A. Knowledge and Understanding

Graduates should be able to:

  1. Understand the foundations of radio and television writing, presentation, and production.
  2. Understand radio and television program formats, their characteristics, and the most effective methods for producing them.
  3. Understand educational and cultural programs and their role in community development, with special emphasis on Palestinian society.
  4. Understand the full process of radio and television production, from idea selection, preparation, presentation, filming, and directing to the production of various program formats.
  5. Understand specialized radio stations and television channels in the age of satellite media, including their positive role in meeting audience needs as well as the potential negative impact of some of their content.
  6. Understand news and news programs, including principles of writing, production, presentation, preparation, broadcasting, and news bulletin production.
  7. Critically evaluate dramatic works and films and assess their role in society.
  8. Apply Arabic language rules in radio and television writing and presentation.

B. Intellectual Skills

Graduates should be able to:

  1. Analyze factors affecting radio and television performance.
  2. Plan and conduct audience surveys and public opinion research related to radio and television.
  3. Analyze news and news reports and critically evaluate dramatic works, radio and television advertisements, documentary films, and documentary programs.
  4. Analyze current political, economic, scientific, and legal events and identify their interrelationships.
  5. Evaluate programming performance in radio and television across all artistic formats and styles.

C. Professional and Practical Skills

Graduates should be able to:

  1. Prepare radio and television programs in various formats, including live broadcasts, talk shows, investigations, news stories, news bulletins, documentaries, variety programs, public service and commercial advertisements, and drama.
  2. Use radio and television studios to record programs or broadcast them live.
  3. Operate all equipment necessary for television production, including studio and portable cameras, lighting equipment, linear and non-linear editing systems, and audio equipment, as well as all equipment required for radio production.
  4. Produce radio or television programs.
  5. Utilize computer technologies in radio and television production.
  6. Apply Arabic language rules in writing radio and television programs.

D. General Skills

Graduates should be able to:

  1. Use computers efficiently and store and retrieve information electronically.
  2. Use statistical software to process research data.
  3. Use the Internet effectively.
  4. Manage time efficiently.
  5. Translate to and from other languages.
