An-Najah National University participated in the kick-off meeting of the SHIFT-MED: Shaping the Future of Universities in the Mediterranean – Twin Transitions project, funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) program. The meeting was held in Naples, Italy, on January 5–6, 2026.


The University was represented by Dr. Ra’fat Al-Jallad, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication, and Dr. Rani Shahwan, Project Manager. During the meeting, partners discussed the project’s implementation framework, work plan, distribution of responsibilities among participating universities, as well as monitoring and quality assurance mechanisms.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Jallad delivered a presentation about An-Najah National University, highlighting its academic standing and leading role in supporting sustainability and the green transition through its academic programs, research centers, and relevant administrative units. The presentation also focused on the University’s efforts to integrate sustainability concepts into curricula, promote applied research in environmental and renewable energy fields, and implement institutional initiatives that reinforce a culture of green transformation on campus.

The project aims to strengthen universities’ institutional capacities in both the green and digital transitions by developing academic policies, supporting governance, and enhancing sustainability, inclusiveness, and quality assurance in higher education institutions.

The project includes several partner universities, including the University of Kairouan (Tunisia) as the coordinating institution, alongside universities from Italy, Turkey, and Palestine, as well as other academic institutions from Mediterranean countries.

An-Najah National University is leading Work Package 3 (WP3): “Developing Green Curricula and Skills,” which focuses on developing green educational curricula and enhancing skills related to the green economy. The University’s main tasks include:

Developing and updating academic courses to integrate sustainability and green transition concepts.

Preparing educational modules that enhance students’ green skills.

Organizing training activities for faculty members in the field of green education.

Contributing to the development of standards for ensuring the quality and sustainability of the developed curricula.

This project confirms An-Najah National University’s commitment to supporting sustainable transformation in higher education and enhancing the readiness of students and academics to meet the requirements of the green economy and digital transformation in the region.
