The Department of Communication at the Faculty of Business and Communication at An-Najah National University concluded a specialized training course titled “Mental Health and the Media” on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
The course was conducted by trainer and psychosocial specialist Juman Mazawi, as part of the fruitful academic collaboration between the faculty and Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway.

The three-day course, held on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (October 9, 11, and 12, 2025), brought together communication students and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health among media students. It also sought to build their professional and human capacities to deal with stress resulting from journalistic coverage and fieldwork, while developing self-care and emotional balance skills that positively impact media performance quality.

The training sessions included interactive exercises and practical applications on stress management, emotional regulation, and mechanisms for handling media-related trauma and sensitive visual content. They also featured open discussions on field experiences and the role of academic institutions in creating a supportive and psychologically safe learning environment.

Students showed remarkable engagement throughout the course and, by its conclusion, produced media projects addressing mental health issues. These works were presented in a special showcase session characterized by rich discussions and commendations for the students’ professional level and depth of analysis.

At the closing session, participation certificates were distributed to the students. Trainer Juman Mazawi emphasized that caring for mental health is a fundamental component of media work, equally important as professional skills, as it serves as the foundation for maintaining performance quality, human dignity, and self-awareness within society.

The Faculty of Business and Communication reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality training programs that enhance students’ skills and strengthen effective international partnerships—contributing to the development of a conscious generation of media professionals capable of addressing societal issues with professionalism and humanity.
