As part of its efforts to integrate theory with practice, the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Business and Communication – An-Najah National University – organized an interactive session within the “Palestinian Economy” course, hosting Mr. Faeid Rayan from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The session began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Raafat Al-Jallad, Dean of the Faculty, who emphasized the importance of partnerships with national institutions, noting that the faculty’s openness to official and field entities deepens students’ understanding of economic realities and equips them with analytical tools vital for their future.
Dr. Bakr Ishtayyeh, Head of the Department of Economics, introduced the guest speaker, stressing the value of such meetings in enriching the learning experience and strengthening practical skills.
Dr. Shaker Khalil, the course instructor, explained that the session aimed to enable direct interaction between students and professionals, linking theoretical concepts with current economic indicators in Palestine.
Mr. Rayan presented a comprehensive overview of the methodologies used by the Bureau in compiling economic accounts, including national accounts, labor market data, fiscal policies, foreign trade, and the balance of payments.
At the end of the session, Mr. Rayan—an alumnus of An-Najah’s Economics Department—expressed his pride in being back at his alma mater, encouraging students to work hard and noting that strong academic knowledge and skills open doors to success in the job market. He also highlighted success stories of department graduates now serving in distinguished positions locally and internationally.
