On Monday, 24/2/2025, the Faculty of Business and Communication and the Deanship of Student Affairs at An-Najah National University launched a dialogue organized by the Young Journalists Syndicate at the university, entitled “Palestinian Displacement and the Role of Media in Preserving the Narrative”. This initiative aligns with the university’s vision for community engagement and achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in quality education, partnerships for achieving goals, sustainable cities and communities, peace, justice, and strong institutions.
The dialogue came amid escalating U.S. and Israeli policies aimed at displacing Palestinians. It discussed the risks facing Palestinians and the role of media in confronting these policies through documentation of Palestinian rights.
The event, held in the Law Auditorium at the new campus, was attended by: Mr. Raed Dbaie, Head of the Political Science Department and Vice President for Community Affairs; Mr. Murad Shteiwi, Director of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority; journalist Jamil Dababat, Director of the Palestinian News Agency “WAFA” in Nablus; Mr. Fahd Wahbeh, representing the Palestinian Red Cross in Nablus; Ms. Anan Al-Nasser, Coordinator of Student Associations at the Deanship of Student Affairs; and student Ayoub Yamak, President of the Young Journalists Syndicate. The event was also attended by Ms. Yasmin Shahrour, Director of the Communication Department; Mr. Eyad Al-Aqra, Director of Student Affairs; the academic staff of the Communication Department; the administrative staff of the Young Journalists Syndicate; and a large number of students.
The dialogue, moderated by student Nour Odeh from the Young Journalists Syndicate, included several segments and short videos about the humanitarian interventions of the Red Cross. Student Qusai Suleiman presented a Quran recitation segment.
Mr. Al-Nasser managed the dialogue, highlighting the critical stage of the Palestinian cause, while Mr. Shteiwi discussed issues of annexation, settlement expansion, land confiscation, displacement, and the legal follow-ups conducted by the Authority. Mr. Wahbeh presented the Red Cross’s humanitarian interventions in several areas, and journalist Dababat reviewed the role of media, digital documentation mechanisms, and the importance of students benefiting from available technologies.
Mr. Dbaie emphasized that this important workshop aligns with the university administration’s commitment to supporting academic research and raising awareness of national and humanitarian issues according to international law principles and sustainable development goals. He noted that preserving the accurate Palestinian narrative requires combined academic and media efforts based on documentation, research, and truth dissemination to counter media misinformation. He also offered a political perspective on the current reality and stressed the need for unity and empowering youth and media.
Student Yamak stated that the university’s journalists syndicate coordinated with a group of speakers and experts to discuss issues related to Palestinian displacement decisions and the role of Palestinian media in preserving Palestinian rights amid ongoing displacement and settlement practices in Palestinian territories.
