Historical Background
The Department of Political sciences is considered as one of the main foundations of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at An-Najah National University. Since its establishment, the Department has worked persistently for preparing students to be political-oriented thinkers through reinforcing their analytical and intellectual skills in the political field. The Department of Political Science offers a single specialisation in Political Science. Students wishing to obtain a B.Sc. degree in this specialisation must successfully complete 131 credit hours, which includes University, College and Department compulsory, elective and "free" courses.

The Department of Political Sciences endeavors to be well-recognised as a leader among Political Science programmes at institutions of comparable size and character. Pursuant to this goal, the Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research and learning. Linking theory with practice and creating well-skilled, political-oriented graduates who possess knowledge, skills and who can critically challenge, are key aims of the Department. With this vision, the Department is well-placed to serve and effectively contribute to the community and the Palestinian situation through its graduates.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Political Sciences is to provide a solid, open-minded curriculum that exposes students to the principal sub-fields of the Political Science field. The Department works constantly to encourage students to be nationally and globally aware through researching, reading and participating in Study Abroad Programmes and to be good readers and analysers of events, whether on the Palestinian level or Regional and Global level.
Objectives
- Enable students to be familiar with the major political theories and concepts, as well as methods of political analysis.
- Prepare students, through studying aspects of history, politics, culture and society, to effectively function as citizens and professionals.
- Develop students' skills to be fully intellectual and critical thinkers and contributors.
- Create a practical environment that facilitates the engagement of students in matters of public concern locally, nationally and globally.
- Work for qualifying graduates who can exercise critical judgment, analyse and synthesise relevant information and construct reasoned arguments.
- Communicate effectively with the community and relevant International Institutions.
- Work effectively with others in developing, advancing and implementing solutions to problems.
Admission Requirements
To join the Department of Political Science, a student must successfully complete:
- 'Introduction to Political Science 54121.' A minimum of 70% must be obtained in the Course.
- All Faculty members sit Basic Introductory Careers.
